Post subject:  Barber-Greene Snow Loader

Union Pacific had what was called a "Snow Loader - Snow Melter" machine used to remove snow from yard tracks, then transfer it into an accompanying steam-heated tank that melted it.

On UP is was numbered as 077 and 078 (later 900077 and 900078), and was built in October 1949 by Barber-Greene of Aurora, Illinois, which also built asphalt paving machines and various trenchers and material loaders. The UP machine was assigned to its yard in North Platte, Nebraska, until it was retired in May 1968.

I have a photo of a similar machine in service on the New Haven. Were there other machines on other railroads?
