1. Currently, I have two different cars numbered as MARC #109. Can anyone clarify the discrepancy?

a. N&W Emory & Henry College/PRR #1488 which was initially Maryland DOT #1409--this is one of the four cars which were stored in Florida before being acquired earlier this year by TVRM

b. PRR #8272 Marietta Inn/PRR #1530 which was initially SEMTA #102--this is now RBBX #41315

The former 10 Roomette - 6 Double Bedroom coaches were numbered in the low-100-series so it would have to be N&W Emory & Henry College/PRR #1488.

2. Did Maryland DOT acquire their cars directly from PC in 1976?

In the 1978-1979 Railway Passenger Car Annual and in the 1980-1981 Railway Passenger Car Annual these cars are listed as Penn Central ('78-'79) and Conrail ('80-'81) while the 1984 Railway Passenger Car Annual are shown as being owned by MARC and numbered in the 1410-series.

6. The four N&W cars which were initally acquired by SWGX/SAM Shortline and later acquired by Inland Lakes Railway/Florida Rail Adventures--did all four receive EOLX reporting marks? When did these cars make the move to Florida, and when were they put in storage?

At least one car recieved EOLX report markings, 101 shown in use in 2009, but other cars are shown still on SAM even as the EOLX cars were in-transit north to SNC in 2011.

8. Does anyone know what #994xxx-series number PRR #8261 Hagerstown Inn/PRR #1526/PC #1526 now carries under CSX ownership? Has the conversion of this car to a Track Geometry configuration been completed? Outshop date?

No shots of the car yet, if that means anything.

11. Finally, I have ten cars for which I don't have a disposition:

Don't feel hit. I have gotten farther with this thread on identifying NJT 54ss-series numbers than I have in the past couple of years trying to find any information on these cars while on NJT. The info has to be out there... the questions are: 1) who has it, and 2) what does a person have to do to wrangle the info from them!!! The down side to the Annuals was that they were discontinued... if anyone knows this info please share it!!!

MARC, or Maryland Rail Commuter, is a later creation/brand name; the service was originally taken over by the aegis of the Maryland Department of Transportation, and if you hit the right era you'll see "Maryland DOT" logo stickers on these cars in the upper corners.

I can call around a bit, but as I am to understand it, this was part and parcel of the same "divestment" of former Conrail commuter service in the same time frame as the final separation of Conrail from NJ Transit, SEPTA, and other commuter operations operated after 1976 under contract with local agencies. We have at least three regular readers/"lurkers" who were intimately involved with the process or its aftermath in Maryland and can probably describe it in further detail if they choose to.

Does anyone know what the link is to the Ringling Brothers passenger car photo roster that I seem to recall seeing on here awhile ago? I'm curious as to what "Elmira Inn" looks like now.

1. Elmira Inn (RBBX #41304) in Riverside, PA, in May 2008: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1179618 (William Klapp photo)

Here's some photos of the other cars now owned by Ringling Brothers:

Also a few disposition updates and corrections below.

2. Pike County (RBBX #41311) in Hamlet, NC, in February 2012: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2934960 (Patrick Treadaway photo)

3. Pulaski County (RBBX #41310) in Atlanta in February 2009: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1502812 (J. Williams photo)

4. Duke University (RBBX #41309) in Waycross in January 2008: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1037306 (G Gerard photo)

5. Lewistown Inn (RBBX #41307) in Hanford, CA, in July 2008: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1242607 (Gary Medina photo)

6. Jeanette Inn (RBBX #41305) in Alorton, IL, in November 2007: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=943968 (Keith B photo)

7. Lima Inn (RBBX #41308) in St. Louis in November 2006: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=572357 (Jim Tiroch photo)

8. Kane Inn (RBBX #41306) in Lee Hall, VA, in April 2013: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3446803 (Jason Underwood photo)

9. Bedford Inn (RBBX #41302) in Newark, NJ, in March 2013: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3401126 (Philip M. Goldstein photo)

10. Marietta Inn (RBBX #41314) in Fort Worth in July 2005: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=158910 (Richard Whitenight photo)

11. Greensburg Inn (RBBX #41316) in Ayer, MA, in October 2009: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1830079 (Jonelle DeFelice photo)

12. Anderson Inn (RBBX #41301) in Grand Rapids in September 2007: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=949542 (Jon Hall photo)

13. Sunbury Inn (RBBX #41317) in Columbia in March 2013: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3408403 (Jonathan Hinely photo)

Disposition Updates & Corrections:

While looking through the Ringling Brothers listings, I noticed that RBBX #41303 was not included, so I did a Google search and found a previously unknown disposition for an "Inn"-series car:

PRR #8253 Coatesville Inn/PRR #1527/PC #1527/NJT #1527/#5434/MARC #148/RBBX #41303

14. Coatesville Inn (RBBX #41303) in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, in October 2003: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=53598 (Juan Viladrosa photo)

Doing some further checking of the RBBX roster, it appears that Marietta Inn became RBBX #41314, not RBBX #41315 as previously noted. Also, Marietta Inn was named Royal Oak during SEMTA ownership. The correction is included in the above list of photographs. Searching again on Google provided a second previously unknown disposition of an "Inn"-series car:

PRR #8290 Van Wert Inn/PRR #1520/PC #1520/SEMTA #109/MARC #unknown/RBBX #41315

15. Van Wert Inn (RBBX #41315) in Norfolk in April 2011: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2497756 (Stephen Corlew photo)

The above pictures were located using Jerry LaBoda's photo links website (http://passcarphotos.info/), which has pages specifically for the RBBX cars. The #413xx-series cars can be found here: http://passcarphotos.info/Indices/Showtrain1b.htm, and here's the other two RBBX pages: http://passcarphotos.info/Indices/Showtrain1a.htm and http://passcarphotos.info/Indices/Showtrain2.htm. There's numerous photos of the #413xx-series cars, and of many other cars in the Ringling Brothers fleet, past and present. Enjoy.

Like a Bigfoot sighting in the East Tennessee woods today - it does exist!

This is the first time in 50 years that one of these cars has been seen in Tuscan!

That's impressive. Kudos to TVRM for doing that.

That exterior restoration of the OSU is really amazing, especially since the original 10-6 window pattern is still intact. You'd never know it was a high-capacity coach inside.

As an aside, I much prefer the gloss black underbody, but didn't those cars actually have a dark green underbody as-built?

So is this car owned by TVRM? If so will we see it on the upcoming excursions?

TVRM acquired four of these cars from Inland Lakes Railway/Florida Rail Adventures last year, one of which was sold to the Roanoke Chapter:

N&W Virginia Polytechnic Institute (PRR #1480)

N&W Emory & Henry College (PRR #1488)

N&W Scioto County (PRR #1489)--to Roanoke Chapter

N&W Ohio State University (PRR #1498)--pictured above as restored to Tuscan Red with PRR number applied

Not of hijack the thread, but what passenger cars do the Roanoke Chapter own? I know they used to be a fixture on NS trips. I know the Mardi Gras and another coach were sold to Iowa Pacific and Monticello Railroad Museum, but what about the rest, and is there any chance of seeing them on excursions again?

MRLX 1498 is now owned by Mid America Railcar Leasing. The effort to get it back into service involved mainly their people with assistance from TVRM and various contractors. The car is operating in the 21st Century Steam train beginning this weekend.
