Bill Lafferty passed away recently at age 96. A veteran of the USN in World War Two, Bill worked for Electro-Motive for more that 40 years in the engine group of the Engineering Department, a career spanning from the 1940s to the 1980s. Most people in locomotive preservation never heard of him, he did not seek or achieve much publicity, but if you have ever worked on any EMD engine, the chances are that you have handled some of the equipment that he was involved with. He was one of those folks whose contributions had a lasting influence on the industry.
