The Stewartstown Railroad is currently in process of restoring former Reading PBm coach number 1341 to operable condition. This coach came to the railroad in 1985, via George Hart, but has been deteriorating for some time now. It started going downhill fast when the railroad temporarily ceased operations in 2004. The railroad managed on acquiring all 4 coaches on the property, and it was decided that 1341 would be the first to be restored, and put into train service once enough track is rebuilt. Much work needs done on the coach, both inside and out. For the winter months, we will be concentrating on the interior portion of the coach. We started by removing the floor tiles from the isle of the coach, as a good bit were broken and/or missing, and are working on finding appropriate replacement tiles. Moving up to the seats, the Stewartstown got a donation of seat bottoms and backs from Strasburg Rail Road, which are an EXACT fit for the seats currently in the coach. Although we were not able to obtain enough to re-furbish the entire coach, we are hopeful to get matching ,or close to, fabric to re-cover the better of the original seats from 1341. While we are at it, also cleaning, lubricating and repairing the seat mechanism's, finding a lot of goodies along the way. Within the next few weeks, we hope to be setting up a workstation in the freight room of the Stew. station, so we can paint frames and install glass in 10 new window sashes recently built, as most of the original sashes on the coach are rotted, and have missing glass. Sometime in the spring, or perhaps sooner, we need to get the roof of the coach properly sealed, as there is some leakage there, and it is affecting the ceiling and some of the walls and floor of the coach. Exterior wise, there is a fair amount of body work to do, some work, including painting, has already been done by another crew leader. As for the trucks, brakes, etc., well, that's also going to be needing a throughout going over as well.
