The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum will be
dedicating their newly constructed 1908-era
Chesapeake & Ohio wooden depot at its Open
House on Saturday 9/11/99. Light refresh-
ments will be served (hot dogs and pop) and
train rides will be given over the museums
short stretch of trackage using our 1941
Whitcomb 44-ton diesel and/or our ex-Erie
S-1 Alco pulling our Bessemer (ex-EJ&E) ca-
boose #1989 and our Erie-Lackawanna caboose
#C345. Our shop building will be open for
inspection (current residents are NKP bay
window caboose #471, GE 95 ton end cab diesel
#11 and C&O K-4 2-8-4 #2789.)
My apologies gentlemen (and ladies)-
The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is located
in North Judson, Indiana (northwest corner of
the state) at a point where the Erie, the C&O,
the Pennsy and the Kankakee Belt Line of the
New York Central crossed. The museum is located
on the former right of way of the Erie (later
Erie-Lackawanna, later still Erie Western and
finally Chicago & Indiana) before the track was
abandoned and torn up. In 1988, HVRM was looking for a home for its Chesapeake & Ohio 2-8-4 and the old Erie right of way was donated to the mu-
seum at that time.
Also, a slight update; our GE 95-ton diesel was
released from the shop on Saturday 9/4 and will be
available to pull caboose trains at the open house
on 9/11/99.
We would like all of those who can possibly
make it for our open house/depot dedication to be
our guests; you can't beat the price!!!
