Below is an excerpt from a Railway Age News Item from this morning concerning CP's possible use of 2816 again. You can read the full article here:

http://www.railwayage.com/index.php/freight/class-i/precision-railroading-with-a-humane-face.html?channel=50

In this, Canada’s sesquicentennial, Canadian Pacific is planning an as-yet-unannounced rolling event to celebrate the country’s 150th birthday. CP fans can only hope this means the re-emergence of its exquisite maroon, gray and black Empress steam locomotive, its fire dropped by Harrison but its running gear kept well-oiled and polished at the company’s Ogden railyard and head office in Calgary. The prospect of the world’s most beautiful locomotive returning to steam will cause foamers to drool unashamedly, but the more important reaction will be that of CP employees to Creel’s promise of a more humane workplace.

Sounds like just speculation/wishful thinking to me. Was there a written agreement in place when she was sent across the border?

SNHS does have several static engines that could be offered in trade (2929 for one, 47 another). A well represented non-profit group could orchestrate 2816 being sent to Scranton in exchange for one or two Canadian steamers to be repatriated - Steamtown gets a running loco, some group in Canada gets a project, and Harrison gets to charge for the moves and steam is out of CP forever. WIN-WIN-WIN

Remember, Harrison is gone, and while Creel is not a soft touch by any means, he is probably smart enough to realize the company has a lot of healing to do, much the same as Claude Mongeau had to do with CN when Harrison left.

It is entirely possible CP's steam program could be resurrected, on a limited basis, particularly considering the fact that 2017 is Canada's sesquicentennial.

Keith Creel is EHH's son in law. Let that sink in for a minute.

Rob, lots of father-in-laws are jerks. Let this new man stand on his own merits and see what he does!

2816 was spotted outside at Ogden recently, being moved around by a diesel switcher.

I saw this on Facebook too, but nobody seems to know for sure why. Did they just pull it out to keep it greased up and put it back? Did they take it over to the big shop for inspection for possible return to service? I know 2860 was moved to the former BC Rail shops across the street for inspection recently for inspection by Al Broadfoot. It has since been moved back to the roundhouse.

What are the regulations for Canadian Steam? Is it still a 1472 day clock like the FRA, or is it different?

I'm told by reliable sources, that 2816 is in storage for the foreseeable future.
She needs the tubes and flues done, before it goes anywhere.
Although well looked after, senior management at CPR appears disinclined to return it to service.
Like 2860 at Squamish BC, at least it's inside and protected.

Old Smokey.

The boiler time is up on 2816. It has been for a while now.

He did? News to me and I am the one that moved it back. Might want to have your facts straight before posting online.
