In the Surviving Passenger Cars group, Jacob Carey posted an update that the above car Angeline was scrapped at MRHF several years ago. As the car is not extant, line item #483 is hereby instead voided.

Im quite surprsied that MRHF didn't consider preserving this car, or more of it. According to the photo it looked like it still had the "slit" style sheathing that gave the appearance of a varnished wood car. Only one car now remains in existence with that sheathing (Private car California) and now all that remains of Angeline is a small section of the rear lounge.

Also, its a parlor car? That window arrangement looked like a 10 section to me!

Mt. Darwin has gotten a repaint at Galveston, it is now back in Pullman Green. A friend by the name of "Yellow Rose Productions" sent me two photos (that I was given permission to share) of the 10 Section showing its repainting process. They are slightly dated, but he plans to go back in time to get up-to-date photos.

Check Pullman Company and/or Surviving Passenger Cars on Facebook for proof.

I have seen a report that the heavy weight sleeper John Greenleaf Whittier is going to the Illinois railway Museum from Colorado. In its revenue years, it served the Pennsylvania Railroad, then later it was owned by the Ohio Railway Museum.

What year was the sleeper built and how did it end up in Alamosa, Colorado?

Correct, IRM is receiving the Whittier.

After being at the Ohio RY Museum, it was one of several heavyweight Pullmans acquired by Iowa Pacific for planned operation, but we all know how that has ended up. The J.G. Whittier was one of many various engines and passenger rolling stock owned by IPH that were listed for sale as part of the bankruptcy; the asking price for the Whittier was listed as $40,000.

36. John Greenleaf Whittier (1929, Lot #6220, Plan #3410B, 12S-1DR, PRR)--PRR #8836 (1948) to Ohio Railway Museum (1967) to Iowa Pacific-San Luis & Rio Grande (SLRG) #9168 (2012) to Illinois Railway Museum (2021)

All 16 of the 12-1's built in this Lot were originally for Pennsy service, and all went to the PRR at the 12/31/1948 divestiture. 2 other cars from this Lot are known to be extant:

190. James Fenimore Cooper (PRR #8823/MofW #473713* [1959]) to private owner, Niles, OH (19??) to Harlansburg Station Transportation Museum, Harlansburg, PA (1984)

*This could be an error on Wayner's part; it would seem more logical that the correct MofW number would be #493713.

389. Admiral Dewey (PRR #8710/MofW #492541 [1960]) to restaurant, Springville, NY (19??) to Puddicombe Estate Farm & Winery, Winona, Hamilton, ONT, Canada (11/2002)

469. Plan #3416 plr [26]-1DR to unknown to Train Coach Restaurant, Tannersville, PA (196?) now the Tandoor Palace Indian Restaurant (19??)

Additional information: Apparently 3 cars were purchased from the PRR and arrived in 1967 according to the local paper they arrived Altoona to Pocono Summit then trucked the rest of the way...This info seems too specific to be inaccurate. Hopefully this helps narrow the car's origins.

Not sure if its in this list but another car surfaced.

CRYSTAL BAY OR CRYSTAL POINT, Plan 3959B, Later 3959K
Norris, IL.
Source - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=46044 and Surviving Pass. Cars on Facebook.

Pullman owned, Steam Ejector A/C. Pooled to Santa Fe, later Milwaukee Road, retained by Pullman.

Bay was sold to the Louisiana & Eastern in '56 while Point was scrapped by Lipsett Steel the same year. Despite the written history, its unknown if the car is actually Bay or Point.

According to another forum on RPYN here, Poplar Summit will be scrapped. The removed interior furnishings are for sale, but the skeletal frame and roof of the 6-6 Sleeper will be subsequently destroyed.

If the sale was listing everything individually, I'd buy a window sash or a prism window if I had money. The interior furnishings are together as a lot.

No, this car hadn't been discussed here previously.

And, I'd go with what Tom Madden said about it being most likely the Crystal Bay that had been sold to the L&E in '56

483. Crystal Bay (Lot #6316, Plan #3989B/K, 1929, 3C-2DR-lng-obs, AT&SF/later MILW)--retained (12/31/1948)--sold to Louisiana & Eastern RR (1956) later to unknown/private party, Norris, IL (unknown date)

Well, that's too bad, and one of the first certain victims of the Iowa Pacific debacle, at least among the heavyweight Pullmans that they had bought up/leased.

If the information is correct, this is ex-Pullman Sleeper "Calais" (Plan 2410F, Lot 4385, Built June 23rd, 1916). It was renumbered to Tourist Sleeper 2314 on June 1st, 1939 before its sale to the Seaboard on Dec. 18th, 1947.

According to Save the ten's website, Calais was then "(...converted into a foreman/cook car for use on maintenance trains. Much later, one end was altered to appear to be an observation car. Rumor has it, this modification was done so that the car could be used in a movie featuring a presidential candidate speaking from the back."

Google Maps / Street view and uploaded pictures of the Tandoor Palace in Tannersville PA show the car still exists as of a couple months ago. It at least has a coat of paint in reasonable condition on it. There's also 0-6-0 tank engine in front of it.

"Joseph Lister" re-emerges from the NRM Shop today in Pullman Green once more. The lettering is a bit off but it is nice to see the car back in green as opposed to the "primer" it once was for many years prior.

It is such a shame that these people didn't ask for help or information from anyone that knows how a heavyweight Pullman car is supposed to look on the inside! They even ignored the heavyweight they have in their own collection. It looks like a set for a high school play on the inside. They blocked me from commenting on their self-aggrandizing Facebook page for saying so.

So much for actual preservation.
