The BBQ restaurant where the "Intrepid" is located has just closed. Also there is a former SP bay window caboose. The cars sit literally five feet from the former SP line to Hearne.

Outta curiousity is Intrepid still there? If so, it may be one of two "unaltered" 16 sections left in existence (I say "Unaltered" because usually 16 sections get full rebuilds. This one may retain its mostly correct interior of at least 16 sections. The other being "Monteith" at the Meridian RR Museum.

If you look at the address I found online for the old BBQ place on street view there is a lightweight baggage car there still but nothing else: 14715 Hempstead Highway, Houston TX 77040
This review shows some photos of the heavyweight car, apparently in C&NW colors but with a GN herald on it, looks like it was tubed to be used as a dining room: https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/texas/t ... aurant-tx/

If the information is correct, this is ex-Pullman Sleeper "Calais" (Plan 2410F, Lot 4385, Built June 23rd, 1916). It was renumbered to Tourist Sleeper 2314 on June 1st, 1939 before its sale to the Seaboard on Dec. 18th, 1947.

According to Save the ten's website, Calais was then "(...converted into a foreman/cook car for use on maintenance trains. Much later, one end was altered to appear to be an observation car. Rumor has it, this modification was done so that the car could be used in a movie featuring a presidential candidate speaking from the back."

According to this other RPYN post, Calais has been saved. The North Carolina Railway Museum/New Hope Valley Railway has acquired the former 12-1 alongside most of the other rolling stock at this site. They will be moved to New Hill and likely be restored for the line's triangle train.

This is correct, all 10 cars have been moved and the Calais/Alexander is the last car to be unloaded. Should be on New Hope Valley rails later today, joining the ACL baggage car and old NS camp car brought over yesterday. The contractors and volunteers have worked tirelessly and safely to move 10 cars in 4 days. Amazing.

Correct, IRM is receiving the Whittier.

After being at the Ohio RY Museum, it was one of several heavyweight Pullmans acquired by Iowa Pacific for planned operation, but we all know how that has ended up. The J.G. Whittier was one of many various engines and passenger rolling stock owned by IPH that were listed for sale as part of the bankruptcy; the asking price for the Whittier was listed as $40,000.

36. John Greenleaf Whittier (1929, Lot #6220, Plan #3410B, 12S-1DR, PRR)--PRR #8836 (1948) to Ohio Railway Museum (1967) to Iowa Pacific-San Luis & Rio Grande (SLRG) #9168 (2012) to Illinois Railway Museum (2021)

All 16 of the 12-1's built in this Lot were originally for Pennsy service, and all went to the PRR at the 12/31/1948 divestiture. 2 other cars from this Lot are known to be extant:

190. James Fenimore Cooper (PRR #8823/MofW #473713* [1959]) to private owner, Niles, OH (19??) to Harlansburg Station Transportation Museum, Harlansburg, PA (1984)

*This could be an error on Wayner's part; it would seem more logical that the correct MofW number would be #493713.

389. Admiral Dewey (PRR #8710/MofW #492541 [1960]) to restaurant, Springville, NY (19??) to Puddicombe Estate Farm & Winery, Winona, Hamilton, ONT, Canada (11/2002)

IRM moved the John Greenleaf Whittier from its interchange with the Union Pacific to the coach shop after the end of revenue service on August 7, 2022, the 31st Annual Vintage Transport Extravaganza.

Photos of the car at IRM may be found at: https://hickscarworks.blogspot.com/2022 ... eport.html

While the car shows some evidence of decades of outdoor storage in Ohio and Colorado, with rust in the usual places, the interior is remarkably intact from when it left Pullman service.

I found this after a quick google search. Photo is at least 10 years old but it does show the train.

https://theredheadriter.com/2014/10/field-day-of-the-past-at-pruitt-farm-in-rockville-virginia/ Here is the link it is from. Also shows a potential non-original interior.

In 2014 3 cars were mentioned in upstate New York. Do these cars still exist in 2022?

A photo of PRR John Hancock at Glenmont may be found here: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=958937

I don't recall hearing of that car among the other equipment that was being moved from that location recently. (former D&H passenger cars, NYC diesel and electrics)

An in service photo of John Hancock may be found here: http://www.northeast.railfan.net/images/prr7042.jpg

With the acquisition of PAR by CSX earlier this year, this car has ended up back on the CSX roster. I have not (yet) seen any mentions of if it will once again be CSX #994008, will stay as ST #103, or something else altogether.

This car was scrapped back in May of this year at the storage site in Beaverton (along with one of the nee-GN 48 seat chairs [turned NJT 108 seat commuter coach] acquired from URHS in 1991, specifically nee-GN #1220).

I do not know the current status (i.e., to be retained or dispositioned) of the other Pullman-turned-SP&S headend car stored at the Beaverton site:

I can personally vouch for this car's existence as I paid a visit to it in September. It's a favorite of mine and if not restored any time soon could use some work to ensure its long term future. Generally, it looks to be in good general shape but it hasn't had windows for at least twenty years; with Central New York weather a much deeper/more educated review would be needed. Its location then (where it still probably is) also wasn't the best as it had recently been tagged inside. There are/were plans to move it after trackwork. Disclaimer: I'm member/volunteer and had permission to be on the car. I have photos if anyone is interested.

Lot 4969 12 Sections 1 Drawing room "Espyville", Milford NY: Currently owned by the Leartherstocking Chapter NRHS/Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad, Ex Conrail MOW 492730, ex PRR 8786

I'm rather sure I've seen video of this car in passing trains this year (still in Remsen, never sold to IP as I've never seen mentioned in the bankruptcy papers?):

Thank you for the updates on both these cars. Both have been discussed much earlier in this long-running thread:

142. Glen Saddell
