This turned up on RailPictures.net:

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 95&nseq=29

Said to be parked awaiting restoration for display. SteamLocomotive.info doesn't seem to list it, and SteamLocomotive.com lists a loco at Oak Hill as being an 0-4-0F.

Any info on just which steamer this is?

An interesting little engine. No, I don't know its history, but I have seen sand domes like this (with the steam dome inside I am guessing) in photos of other saddletank locomotives. I wonder if this sand dome would at least identify the builder (Vulcan, Porter, Baldwin, Alco, or....).

The sand dome is an Alco design. This may be the locomotive that was at the asthma camp in WV until it closed in 1983.

I think this is a former C&O steamer that operated in South Charleston, WV. The Oak Hill chapter recieved this locomotive which if memory serves correct, in the late 90's.

Not a fireless with a firebox, water tank, fuel bunker, and smokebox, etc...

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Thanks Tom for my oversight, I didn't meant to type fireless. I was looking at a picture of one when I was typing....haha

This 0-4-0T should be 1924 built ALCO-Cooke B/N-65457. Built for Stock, sold in 12/1924 to LaClede Steel # 4 at Alton, IL. Years later sold to Bronco Junction at Red House, WV. By 1996 stored at FMC plant in South Charleston, WV. About 1996, reported acquired by White Oak Chapter NRHS and moved to Oah Hill, WV.

Steam locomotive. Info shows the loco as having been scrapped. Any idea when this happened?

Steamlocomotive.com has it as being scrapped in 2012. On Google Earth, the locomotive is there on 3/26/12 and gone on 9/5/13.

I have no reason to believe this loco still exists, but the reality is that the "scrapped" status is apparently still in question absent confirmation. This loco is small enough for someone to have mysteriously trucked it to some other location, more so than, say, a 2-8-0 or the like.

If any one has any doubts on the scraping of this locomotive contact Bill Hannabass with the City of Oak Hill West Virginia. He's the man who ordered it scrapped.

I went down this rabbit hole about 2014, or 2015 with a similarly disappointing result.

Hard to believe that there are still folks today, that have such little regard for history. Yet, it obviously is still happening!

So what's the deal with Laclede Steel Company 0-4-0T's? I just noticed that the #3 was scrapped in 2006 in Carlinville, IL.

Kind of amazed that these two scrapings happened "off the radar" so to speak.
