Recent articles in TRAINS about European night trains and the new Amtrak train sets in the Pacific Northwest have raised the topic of Talgo technology again. Although a Spanish concept, the first successful Talgo passenger cars and locomotives were built by ACF in 1949. Designated Talgo II, these American train sets----I believe 3 total----were used in Spain until the 1960's when supeseded by European-built Talgo III sets. Talgo technology has since advanced to the Talgo Pendular [1980's] and current TP200 sets.
One of those American Car & Foundry Talgo II sets exists today at the Spanish National Railway Museum in Madrid. Unless it has relocated in the last 12 years, the Museum is housed in Madrid's former Delicias Station. Also in the Museum is an export version of the Alco FA diesel, which RENFE, the Spanish rail system, used more than a few.
